Poachers Caught in the Pyrenees of Lleida Protected Area in Spain


Agents Rurals of the Antifurtivismo Special unit have charged in Tremp (Lleida)  three professional poachers  who were caught hunting in the municipality of  Alins  (Lleida),  in a zone wildlife areas of, of the National Hunting Reserve of Alt Pallars and Natural Park of Alt Pirineu.


The poachers were detected by an agent that carried out tasks of surveillance , monitoring and census of the population of chamois and other ungulate animals present in the area, said Tuesday in a statement the  Ministry of Agriculture .


From the first hour of the morning, the agent could observe how the three poachers made a route from the low levels to the high meadows of the mountain and to be able to identify these people, the agents took a control device that the poachers skipped but they were identified with the collaboration of the body of Mossos d'Esquadra.


Long distance captures

The poachers wore camouflage and had a weapon with silencer attached  to avoid being detected and a high power vision scope allowing them to kill from great distances. In total, it is known that killed  four male mouflon and a male chamois , this last silver trophy and  highly valued  by the furtive practices in the Pyrenees since this subspecies is only there.


At the time they were intercepted, they did not carry the hunting pieces obtained furtively or the weapon. The refusal to deliver the material used led to a careful investigation during the night of the same day of the events until the next day at noon.


In this investigation they were able to locate in a zone very next to a population and  hidden in a wooded area  the  four heads of mouflon , the weapon with ammunition and other elements used for the hunting, and the chamois was located thanks to the citizen collaboration.
