Grey Whales Discovered Dead On Migration North

Last week herald a sad turn of events as 2 Grey Whales were discovered dead in San Francisco Bay. malnutrition.

Following this heart breaking discover another whale was found at Angel Island State Park.

She was barely a over a year old was found dead, because of died of starvation from severe malnutrition.

Changing ocean patterns have cause the whales to shift their annual northward migration from Mexico to Alaska. These changes have found them entering the San Francisco Bay. This year is very concerning as this highly abnormal for their behavior. Not only are they coming in larger numbers, they are staying longer in the warmer waters.

This steady rise in temperatures are killing off the Grey Whales food source causing them to seek out new food sources and take more effort to do so. this is causing Whales health challenge whales to become more acceptable to starvation and health health risks.

The oceans have been warming intensely for the past several decades. We are seeing increases in ocean heat waves and record-breaking ocean temperatures which are causing coastal ecosystems to rapidly change. The amount of heat that our oceans have absorbed from the atmosphere is responsible for intensifying storm activity and rising sea levels. And, in a new study, scientists discovered that the oceans have absorbed 1000 times more energy than what the entire human population uses annually.

The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito said Thursday scientists were unable to determine a cause of death for the other whale.

Padraig Duignan, the center's chief research pathologist, says it's likely the malnourished whale didn't have enough reserves built up to survive her journey north.
